A beautiful star-shaped freshwater lake surrounded by pine trees and walking trails, Kodaikanal Lake is the heart of the hill station and a favorite destination for boating and photography.
Kodaikanal Lake is a man-made, star-shaped freshwater lake located in the center of Kodaikanal, one of Tamil Nadu's most popular hill stations. Created in 1863 by Sir Vere Henry Levinge, the lake spans approximately 24 hectares (60 acres) and is encircled by a scenic 5 km pathway ideal for walking, cycling, and horse riding. The lake offers boating, pedal boats, rowing boats, horse rides, cycling rentals, and picturesque viewpoints. Surrounded by eucalyptus trees, pine forests, cafés, and gardens, it is one of the most sought-after destinations for travel photography, pre-wedding shoots, family outings, and film productions. The misty atmosphere and cool climate make it attractive throughout the year.
